After our craziness trying to drive a manual rental car, it was time to have a bit of relaxation…or so we hoped. We were nervous, as we had never rented a house through AirBnB (<–affiliate link with $25 coupon credit from us for your stay) – especially overseas in Aix en Provence, France!
(AirBnB is a site where property owners can list rooms, apartments, or even houses to rent. Most have a minimum stay of a couple of days, and prices vary greatly by city and property.)
The place had seemed great online, but we still didn’t know what we were getting into. After all, if you take the right pictures from the right angles, you can make almost any rental property look amazing. But we had to make a choice. So we went by our tips for renting a property and chose the house that looked peaceful at the edge of town. Plus, the owner not only had good reviews, but he responded almost immediately to our (many) questions.
We called the owner to let him know we would be getting in late, and we hesitantly drove to the house.
Kinda: I was the one who had picked this location, so I was extra-nervous. I’m not going to lie, I was praying under my breath, “Please don’t let this be a disaster. Please don’t let this be covered in graffiti with hookers on the street corner. Please let this be a nice place….” I can’t explain to you my relief when we pulled up and it was…amazing.
It looked exactly like you would expect a little house in France to look, complete with flowers in the yard and huge French doors leading out into the garden. It felt as if we had stepped into another dimension. It was actually better than we had thought. Wow.
Kinda: I could have moved into the place. It was my little dream home. I thought about hiding in a closet and camping out there, but I don’t think they would have let me stay.
All in all, this was one of the best experiences renting a property with AirBnB that we could have had. Having five girls, it ended up being cheaper to rent an entire house and split the cost than to find dorm beds in hostels. Plus, we thought we would need a relaxing break after the craziness of Paris. Good decision.
COST OF STAY: The cost was $40/person per night. Yes, this was at the high end of our budget. But the place was spacious and homey and completely worth the extra splurge.
NOTE: We had such a good experience with AirBnB on this trip that we now recommend them as a lodging option. To rent from AirBnB, use this affiliate link for a $25 credit from us, good off of your first stay.

Yes we loved it! It felt like every movie I’ve ever seen set in the French countryside. My little dream house 🙂
